Top 10 Sports Movies Of All Time

Alright it is time to get to the actual countdown, which means getting to the actual top 10.  It is really difficult to narrow so many movies down to 10.  I had a hard time just sorting the 13 movies I chose for this countdown.  Really it came down to what movie was the most important and most influential to me.  Okay, maybe none were very influential, but they did add an aspect to my thirst for sports knowledge.

#10  Field of Dreams

Is there any other big time actor who has meant more to sports movies than Kevin Costner?  Highly doubtful.  The guy has been in baseball and golf films galore.  Hell, he has 3 movies in my top 10.  No matter what role he is playing, the guy just knows how to make a good sports movie.  Field of Dreams is no exception.  “If you build it, he will come.”  One of the most noticeable quotes of any movie at any time.  Ghosts and baseball apparently make a good combination in the middle of nowhere Iowa.  This movie is just plain amazing.

#9 The Legend of Bagger Vance

There once was a magical young man named Bagger Vance.  He was a wandering caddy, who spent much of his time helping wayward golfers find their game.  That is enough writing like the intro to the movie.  Bagger Vance walks into Rannulph Junuh’s life one day and decides to stick around until he is ready to play golf and beat 2 of the best players of the time.  Will Smith is amazing and Matt Damon is just as spectacular.  Add in some Charlize Theron and that is what makes a good movie great.  Non-golf fans will enjoy this movie because of the acting and the storyline.  Golf fans will enjoy it because even though they may not be the real Walter Hagan and Bobby Jones, we get to see what they may play like in real life.  Great Movie!

I’m not going to argue with your recommendation of “Field of Dreams.” I think it accurately captures the magic of baseball, that indescribable quality that you just don’t get in other sports. As for Bagger Vance, I’ll have to put it on my list. Thanks for the tip!
