It’s Monday morning and everybody is heading back to work and can’t wait for the weekend again. But, This is the last Monday of the next 5 months or so that won’t have basketball playing. The NBA season starts tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited.
Let’s do some quick power rankings of every team in the NBA. Going to separate them into some categories here.
The Just plain bad… Knicks, Nets, Sixers, Nuggets, Trailblazers, Timberwolves
The maybe next years… Lakers, Magic, Hornets, Kings, Suns, Pistons, Mavericks
The cusp of a playoff win… Pelicans, Heat, Pacers, Raptors, Celtics, Bucks, Jazz, Raptors
The second tier… Bulls, Grizzlies, Hawks, Wizards, Rockets
The ACTUAL title contenders… Warriors, Clippers, Spurs, Cavaliers, Thunder
If your team is to jump into the next category they will have to make one thing happen. Have some consistency. Too many of the teams that want to make a jump have young players or guys who haven’t been there before and aren’t consistent enough to win.
The Lakers are my team and I will be a fan no matter what, but they aren’t likely to make the playoffs this year unless Kobe and the young guns play out of their minds.
I think the West playoffs will be brutal. There are at least 6 teams that could legitimately win the West. That’s insane if you think about it. The Warriors will still be tough, but they won’t have a cake walk to the finals. Whereas the Cavaliers will have just that in the East. I look for the Bulls or Wizards to be the only possible threats to the Cavs.
At the end of the year I think it will be the Spurs and Cavaliers in the finals. Spurs winning in 7. Anthony Davis wins MVP. Quinn Snyder wins coach of the year. Kobe Bryant wins comeback player of the year. Jahlil Okafor wins rookie of the year. There it is. Mark it all down.
