As all sports fans should know by now Kobe Bryant has decided to call it quits at the end of this season. While many of us had believed that we would be seeing more Kobe in the future. This is it
From now until the end of the season we will be seeing tributes aplenty and people commenting on their Kobe thoughts and experiences. 99.9% of them will be touching and light hearted. Just find the letter to Kobe from a Celtic fan. It’s pretty amazing.
But there is always that story that won’t be so well received. It involves whatever happened in that Colorado hotel room over a decade ago and the impending rape trial that proceded.
Kobe fans are quick to dismiss that time in his life and his critics will always bring that up first. But for the next 5 months, not a basketball fan in the world will be able to get away from Kobe.
And that’s the way it should be
When Lebron decides to call it quits he will get the same treatment. But right now it’s Kobe’s time. He only got one MVP award which is a travesty and yet he will and should get way more media coverage than at any other point in his career.
Don’t expect Kobe to continue to play this poorly, but know that things won’t be drastically better in an instant either. Just hope that you get to see a few more Kobe moments. A 50 point game, a game winner, one more poster dunk. Anything to make us remember that he is arguably one of the best of all time.
