Back in the Hunt

After 3 lack luster losses at the beginning of the season the UCLA basketball team was looking like it was in for a long season. A loss at home to Monmouth in the opener and 2 sub-par efforts in Maui left us Bruin fans thinking the NCAA tournament would be a far cry.

But a lot can change in a few weeks

An absolutely dominant performance against #1 Kentucky in Pauley Pavilion changed how this season is being judged. UCLA was in control from the tip and absolutely punished the team that beat us by what seemed like 100 points last season.  Alas, that was a completely different team, but it’s still the same #1 Kentucky.

To back that up they go on the road to the Kennel at Gonzaga get off to a hot start and then make great plays down the stretch to avenge another loss from last year and probably get back into the top 25 rankings.

UCLA has gone from lost season to contender. They still lack some depth but the return of gygy goloman soon should help with that.

I am not ready to name the Bruins a final four contender yet, but with continued strong play from the starters and the ever improving game of Jonah Bolden, come March no team will want to see UCLA on their side of the bracket.

One more huge game against North Carolina awaits before the start of PAC-12 play begins. If the Bruins can win that the country will take notice
